Looking back I would say since high school, if not middle school, I have wanted to have my own portrait studio. So after high school that is what I went to college for, attended the Ohio Instate of Photography & Technology. Where I learned more than I ever expected too, of course I thought I knew a lot going in (ha-ha don’t all college students think they know a lot). I learned about things I would not have ever considered or thought about till someone pointed it out when photographing. In winter quarter 2000 I graduated with a degree in portrait photography. I knew then I would not walk out of there and right into having a studio, but that was my goal for someday and I would start working towards that.
After graduating I made sure to get jobs that wouldn’t stop me from working towards my goal. I worked in photography, but not for big studios that would not allow me to start my own studio someday in that area. Not long after graduation I did start my own photography business, in 2001. Mostly doings weddings and some location work to start.
Over the years since I started I have been building things up one little thing at a time… one light, one backdrop, one prop at a time, when I could or as I came across a good deal. As I built up my supplies I tried to offer more for portraits, but location made it difficult or limited at times, but I made what I had for me.
I feel God has a time for everything and I am very excited to finally have worked up to getting a building to put my studio in. God has blessed me with a larger space, then my dining room, to reach my goal of having a studio! I’m renting a building with a large open room, for shooting and two smaller rooms for an office and prop storage. I am looking forward to all the new things I will be able to do and offer now. Like I want to build or create seasonal sets for portraits.
Thanks to all those that have supported me, hired me for their photographer or just stud by me to help me reach this goal! Now as I move on to this next step in my photography career I also ask for your prayers that I can do this, make it happen and be a success!
P.S. for anyone wandering about my day time job… I will be keeping it, as I also love agriculture and have wanted to put my love of Ag and Photography together for a long time and it does that for me and I enjoy me job! I will run the studio by appointment only in the evenings and weekends.
